Tips to find the mystery player faster
Method, good questions and classic traps, to score more points every day.
1. Start wide, with questions
At the start, 1100 players are possible. A good first question splits that list in two. “Premier League” is a great opener: about 58% of the players spent time there. Then ask for a continent (“Africa”, “South America”), a position (“goalkeeper”, “defender”) or a decade (“born in the 1990s”). Four or five questions like these often take you past 40°.
Careful: every question counts as a try, just like a guessed player. A question that only rules out a few players (a small club, a rare nationality) is a wasted try early on.
2. Pick “crossroads” players
When you guess a player, the game shows everything he shares with the mystery one: nationality, position, clubs, leagues and teammates. So your first guess should be someone who played in many places. Players who went through four or five big leagues and ten clubs (like Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Kevin-Prince Boateng or Alexis Sánchez) reveal a lot even when they're wrong.
3. Read the arrows and the teammates
The age arrow tells you whether the mystery player is older or younger: combine two guesses and you can narrow his birth year down to a few seasons. A “teammate at…” line is the strongest clue there is: it means both players were at the same club at the same time. Look up that club's squad from that period in your head, and you're often down to a handful of names.
4. Watch the temperature
The temperature measures how many players are still possible. Around 65°, about ten remain; at 99°, only one. If it barely moves after a question, that question didn't teach you much: change angle (position instead of league, decade instead of continent).
5. Hints: only as a last resort
A hint unlocks after 5 tries, then every 6. Each one costs 10% of your points, but giving up costs everything and resets your streak. When you're stuck above 90°, it's often worth trying a name or two before asking for one.
6. Common traps
- Loans count. A loan spell is listed among the clubs, and can explain a surprising “common club”.
- A “no” is a clue too. “Not in Serie A” rules out hundreds of players at once: write down what you've excluded.
- Spelling. You don't need accents: “Ozil” or “Özil”, both work, as do common nicknames.
7. Train on past days
Every missed day can be replayed from your album, with no points: it's the best way to practise. Once you've found one, its profile in the archive shows the hints of the day and the other mystery players he's linked to.
